Introducing Aquartz: The Finest Inorganic Protectant - Total Protection For Your Vehicle!
What is Aquartz? Aquartz is the next generation protective coating for automobile surfaces. It protects automotive paintwork and glass, while enhancing the appearance with a deep gloss finish.
Unlike traditional organic waxes, Aquartz (Water-based and containing Silica / Silicon Dioxide / SiO2 and Titania / Titanium Dioxide / TiO2) chemically bonds to a vehicles paint surface, creating an ultra durable hybrid coat (a scratch resistant coating).
Why Aquartz? A vehicle treated with Aquartz has many benefits for both the automobile and the owner. The special nano-technology coating provides long-term protection and a permanent easy to clean surface. The need for polishing and waxing becomes a thing of the past and due to the unique self cleaning effect, washing the vehicle is easier and less time consuming.
Leaving you with more time to sit back and admire the stunning gloss finish!
The glass coating preserves the paintwork and forms an invisible barrier to protect against acid rain, bird droppings, road salt, tar, brake dust and harmful UV rays. It also increases the hardness of the paint surface by up to 50% - Aquartz film protection hardness: 9H (Mohs Scale). This effectively adds an anti-scratch effect to the finish, and so greater resistance against key, fingernail and car wash scratches; swirl marks, spider-webbing and micro-marring.
In a changing climate, there has never been a better time to invest in the Aquartz treatment!
How does it work? Aquartz paint protection is the world's first hybrid nano silica-titanium coating system. Aquartz bonds to paint at the molecular level, forming a super hard transparent layer of protection. The Aquartz+ coating is super hydrophilic (which results in reduced water beading / flatter beads and so less spotting and staining compared with hydrophobic waxes) and also dirt-repellent. Aquartz cannot be removed by water, alkaline detergents or high pressure washing equipment. Aquartz is UV stable and treated surfaces maintain original clarity and transparency.

Aquartz Iron Cut: Highly effective, acid-free and pH balanced (6~7pH) car paint, glass and alloy wheel cleaner (safe for all clear coated alloys). This formulation is also effective and safe for use on all automotive surfaces and will not deteriorate clear coats. Note: It is recommended to avoid contact with chrome trim (please mask same) and above all, avoid letting Iron Cut dry out on treated surfaces. Simply rinse away with a strong stream of fresh water.
Iron Cut contains unique chemical ingredients that effectively dissolve sintered iron, by forming a water soluble iron complex. The Iron Cut Decontamination System was developed as a method of removing contamination beyond what can be removed by washing or claying. If you are familiar with detailing clay, you know it is capable of removing contaminants proud of the surface. Iron Cut is designed to remove what lies beneath the paint surface.
Airborne chemical compounds and ferrous particles - particles containing iron - actually penetrate the paint and create corrosive compounds that eat deep into the paint's sub-layers or pin-holes. This is a gradual process that often is not evident until it's too late. Claying or polishing only removes the particle, not the effects, which are continuing to spread beneath the surface.
During normal daily use of your vehicle, brake dust and road grime become sintered to the surface of paint and wheels, due to the high temperature and conditions they are normally exposed to. Brake dust contains high levels of iron and once sintered to the rim, become extremely difficult to dissolve or remove, without the use of harsh chemicals. Iron Cut opens paint pores to release ferrous particles and to neutralize caustic compounds, that have developed in the paint's sub-surface. Ongoing damage is stopped immediately and future damage is prevented by removing these ferrous particles.
Iron Cut sprays on as a transparent liquid solution. As the cleansing liquid begins to work, the formula begins to turn purple/red in colour. This purple/red coloration is the Iron Cut cleaner forming a bond to the sintered iron and changing it to a water soluble complex for easy removal. After five minutes or thereabouts, treated surfaces are wiped down and rinsed thoroughly with a pressure washer. When the entire vehicle has been completed, it is then ready for claying.

The Aquartz Application Process: Only ever wash a vehicle in the shade, not in strong sunshine. If possible park on a slight incline.
1). Gently rinse down vehicle with a hose or pressure washer to remove dust, loose dirt and grit.
2). Optional Pre-Wash: Apply a thick layer of foam (snow foam) over the entire vehicle. Allow the foam to dwell for five minutes. Then rinse off with a pressure washer. This is effectively a touchless car wash as no mitt (or dirt) is wiped over paintwork.
3). Pre-Detail Wash: Hand wash the vehicle with a double concentration of car shampoo and warm water, as your wash solution. Use a lambswool wash mitt on paint and glass and a microfibre wash mitt on wheels. The two bucket wash method is also recommended. Always wipe wash mitts over paint and glass surfaces using no downward pressure and in a back and forth (not circular) motion. Follow the contours of the vehicle and avoid wiping the same areas repeatedly, where one or two passes suffice. Work from the top of the vehicle downwards. Rinse off suds with a hose or pressure washer. A final rinse with an open hose (without the spray nozzle attached) will help to sheet most of the rinse water away, making the drying process afterwards much easier. Pat dry vehicle with a soft / plush microfibre towel. (Note: Avoid washing with a sponge or drying with a leather chamois).
Normally, you would only use a gentle wash shampoo (at the proper dilution rate) and lukewarm water for washing a vehicle, not to strip off or weaken sealant or wax protection. However, before a major detail which includes paint decontamination, claying, polishing etc. a higher concentration of car shampoo and slightly warmer water should be used as the wash solution. Alternatively, a All-Purpose-Cleaner (APC) Wash or Degreaser Wash may be used as a once off. This helps to degrease the vehicle and remove old sealant, wax or preservative layers. Whichever option you take, allow the wash solution to sit on the paint for at least five minutes, but not long enough for it to dry out. Rinse off thoroughly with a pressure washer.
4). Tar Removal: Remove any tar spots or insect residues with a dedicated tar removal product. Avoid rubbing or scrubbing tar spots - Spray or wipe on product, let it dwell for a few minutes, then wipe off gently. Rinse down afterwards with a pressure washer or (express) wash the areas treated with a car wash shampoo and rinse well.
5). Iron Particle (Fallout) Removal: Spray a few spritzes of Iron Cut to a panel and wipe the solution into the surface with a damp sponge. Purple/red spots should appear in places, depending on how much contamination is present. After five minutes wipe over the panel again with the damp sponge. Avoid letting the solution dry out. Rinse off thoroughly with a pressure washer. Move to another panel and repeat the process. When the entire vehicle has been completed, it is then ready for claying.
6). Claying: Removes bonded contaminants from the paint (top) surface. Clay is also suitable for use on glass and alloy wheels. Divide a clay bar into two or three separate pieces. A bucket of warm water helps to soften the clay before use. Mould and knead the clay several times over until it is soft and pliable. Form into a disc-like shape which fits easily in your hand. Always use plenty of lubricant when claying. If you drop the clay bar on the ground throw it out - do not reuse. Glide the clay bar over the surface using little to no downward pressure and always in a back and forth (not circular) motion. Where there is resistance, there are contaminants - Continue working on that area until the clay bar runs freely - then move on to another section. Remould and reshape the clay bar after claying each panel. Also check the clay periodically for larger contaminants that might scratch the paint (ones not fully absorbed into the clay bar - Just pick them out). When the entire vehicle has been clayed, wash again with a car shampoo, rinse off and dry down.
7). Polishing: Use bodyshop-friendly (overpaintable) compounds and polishes to remove scratches, swirls marks, spider-webbing and oxidation - restore paint colour and create a high-gloss (yet unprotected) finish. So pure polish products only which are silicone-free, wax-free and filler-free.
Paint needs to be fully cleaned and polished to a very high standard, before application of the Aquartz sealants.
At this stage the vehicle should be moved indoors to a dry, cool environment with good lighting (if it has not been previously, for the polishing stage). Aquartz coatings should never be applied in strong sunshine (or to hot surfaces) nor in cold, damp weather conditions. No water must come into contact with paintwork during the application process, nor the curing period afterwards.
8). Aquartz Application: Aquartz (1st Coat) & Aquartz (2nd Coat) & Aquartz+ Xcelerator (Optional 3rd and Final Coating). Comprehensive application instructions will be given with all product purchases.
The Aquartz system should be applied by professional detailers or persons of comparable skill levels (experienced enthusiasts). It is not recommended for application by novice or intermediate level (car care) enthusiasts. For best results, preparation of vehicles must include full paint decontamination and machine polishing (with silicone-free / wax-free polishes), before application of the Aquartz and Aquartz+ nano coatings. Aquartz sealants must be applied in a systematic way. Detailing work should be undertaken in a dry, cool environment with good lighting. As heat and overspray can present issues, we would only recommend applying same indoors and to cool bodypanels. Even a draughty workspace would result in product overspray. You could spray the product directly onto the applicator to avoid this, although it would mean slightly more sealant getting absorbed by the microfibre in the process. Another very important point would be not to apply the product in sunshine or in cold, damp weather conditions. Also to avoid any water coming into contact with the sealants during the application process or curing period afterwards.
Iron Cut & Aquartz+ Xcelerator are relatively straightforward products to use. The Aquartz (stage 1) sealant on the other hand, must be applied exactly as instructed to. Failure to do so, may result in complications. Ultimately, the product should be applied sparingly to small sections at a time; e.g. 1ft x 1ft surface area (if applying by hand, using a soft / fine microfibre pad or cloth) or up to a 2ft x 2ft surface area (by machine buffer, fitted with a soft foam finishing pad). Product worked / buffed into the paint finish immediately (without any time delay), using brisk buffing motions (by hand) or at low speed: 600-1000 rpm / medium pressure (by Rotary machine polisher). The Aquartz sealant must be sprayed on, worked in and buffed (non-stop) until it disappears completely. The frictional heat and static electricity generated while buffing, improves bonding and increases gloss levels. Avoid letting excess product dry. As it dries out, it also hardens. If left untreated, even for a short period of time, the sealant may not buff up to its full (appearance enhancement) potential. Therefore, any excess product residue or streaking should be buffed out at the time with a soft microfibre cloth. If this fails, spritz a tiny amount of product to a soft microfibre applicator pad or cloth (not the surface), work it into the finish with light to moderate pressure and then buff off (without delay).
Note: Any excess, dried, hardened sealant coating(s) can only be removed by abrasive compounds and polishes. Two applications of Aquartz are required before applying Aquartz+ Xcelerator for (double coating thickness) proper anti-scratch protection. A heat source (heat gun or hair dryer) may be used between each coat, to warm bodypanels and accelerate sealant curing time. Otherwise let cure for 1 hour (between each coat). Please ensure that the Aquartz (stage 1) product has been buffed to an optically clear shine (without any streaking, otherwise buff with slightly more pressure), before introducing a heat source to the process. Very light streaks which remain after the Aquartz (stage 1) product has been applied (panel heated up and allowed time to cool down), will be removed by the Aquartz+ Xcelerator product, if applied in the same detailing session. Most importantly of all (through the entire process) always apply products to cool surfaces only. If a heat source is used after product application, allow sufficient time for the surface to cool down again, before subsequent applications are undertaken.
If applying the Aquartz (stage 1) product by machine buffer, we would recommend that extensive testing is done first on scrap bodypanels to perfect application methods and technique. The heat generated by a machine polisher can dry out and harden the product too quickly, before it has been worked fully into paintwork. So it is very much a case of practice makes perfect.
If all this appears somewhat daunting or too labour intensive, or you feel you do not possess the necessary skills, equipment, time or patience to undertake and complete same; please consider engaging the services of Spirit Detailing.
